A Brief History
Katrina is a well established horse woman. She started riding at 3 and hasn’t stopped! Katrina showed ponies until she was 9 when her parents finally gave in and allowed her grandfather to buy her a 12’2” jumping pony. During Katrina’s ‘pony’ years she competed at The Horse of the Year Show in The Junior Newcomers Show Jumping Championship. Katrina was also invited to and competed in The Selection Trials for the Pony European Event Team. She also competed at The 13’2” Show Jumping Championships at Southampton, yearly at The Hickstead Schools Show Jumping Championships and the Hickstead Pony Club Show Jumping Championship. A very keen member of The Wokingham Pony Club, Katrina competed in all 3 disciplines at The Pony Club Championships at Weston Park with excellent results, including 2nd in the Senior 3DE.
And so onto horses…..during her late teens and early 20’s she was still heavily competing on the show jumping and eventing circuit including travelling to Poland with her horse Toweregions Sparkle. It was in Poland she represented Great Britain in The European CIC2* Championships. The Team won 4th place and Katrina and Sparkle won individual bronze medal, still one of the best British individual results to date. By this time she had also taken a keen interest in dressage, and, after losing her top eventer to colic, she made a very easy transition into specialising in dressage. From then until now, Katrina has trained and produced many horses to various levels including her Mother’s stallion Woodlander Markies from a 3 year old up to Grand Prix, they were also on The Potential Olympic squad and have together won 5 national championship titles. They have also enjoyed competing for GB in CDI’s both small tour and big tour.
Currently Katrina is competing Woodlander Donna Summer at Grand Prix. Donna has been trained by Katrina since arriving at Winkfield Manor Farm as a 3 year old. They have qualified for and competed at the nationals at nearly every level as well as representing GB at Small tour. In 2020 Donna and Katrina have achieved their international qualifying scores at Grand Prix and are hoping to be invited to compete at internationals in 2021.
Waiting in the wings are the younger horses who will be out and about as soon as they are ready, fingers crossed for 2021.
During Katrina’s dressage career she has the wonderful opportunity to train with world class trainers including Carl Hester, Vicki Thompson, Henk Van Bergen, Michael Beining, Conrad Schumacher, Jennie Lorriston Clarke and Jane Bredin
Teghan was introduced to dressage whilst in the womb. Teghan's mum, Katrina, continued competing her own stallion at the nationals, premier leagues and the Europeans in the Pas de Duex Championships whilst pregnant. Once born Teghan was straight on a horse and upon turning 3 had her first pony.... From there she has had a selection of ponies and now Teghan has moved on to horses including successfully competing Woodlander Donna Summer in national junior classes gaining +70%.
Teghan has had many successes already including becoming fledgling champion at the BD interregional with a whopping 97.9 %. Being selected for the BD GB Dressage Progress Squad with Bernwode Broadway and reserve with Bertie, followed by successful competitions show jumping and eventing for the school and pony club with Bertie. Teghan has now moved on to horses and not only rides Donna but also rides Vinnie and helps to break and ride away the young horses and has started training her own clients with very positive outcomes. All this as well as studying for A levels and the DISE program (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) at Hartpury. Busy young lady!
Our most valued team member and none of Katrina's or Teghan's equestrian dreams could have been realised without her. Our rock, secretary, trainer, groom, chef, driver, critic and biggest fan. Best of all.....our Mum and Nan.
Former BSJA show jumper to Grade A, competing along side some of the best including Ted and Liz Edgar, Caroline Bradley, Harvey Smith, Alan Oliver, David Broome and many more of GB's show jumping greats.
Christine's love of horses came about as her grandfather and father (Bert) had horses to transport their wares to the local London community by horse and carriage. As engines took over, Bert's own business embraced this and this in turn made way for Christine ponies, local shows and pony club. Great success and many friends made Christine then moved on to the adult circuit, producing grades A's and successfully winning along with marrying Roy and starting a family.
Competing all over the country in county shows with her horses, Christine unfortunately damaged her back in a riding accident and although recovered, continued to ride and compete until family life started to take over and her time was taken up raising 2 children along with their ponies, her own horses, the odd race horse plus a whole host of farm animals.
As Katrina's riding career took off, followed by Teghan's, Christine then became the driving force behind Team Cantrell.
Max is the youngest member of the team, he loves all animals, rode as a child and although he now no longer rides he lends a hand to make the farm run smoothly. Max helps to take care of the farm by maintaining the arenas along with harrowing and rolling of the fields, mowing of the grass areas and lakes, painting, and anything else OTHER than having to clean up after the horses! Max is currently in yr 9 and loves football.
Nick has had a love of animals from an early age and loves to ride although his work takes him away from this. With his own electrical company to run www.vantage-electrical.com Nick still finds time to be involved, stay away at shows, drive the horse box and sort all the electrical issues on the farm.
